Research shows that diabetes affects 438 million people, and that 70% of cases of this increasingly common disease are in low- and middle-income countries. These victims need access to blood glucose meters.
My concept is a redesign of glucometer and insulin pump technology currently approved by the FDA; only their configurations are altered. I considered the users’ lifestyles, how and where the products are used, and competitive offerings in the market. Carrying an insulin pump, a separate glucometer, and the consumables used in monitoring blood glucose are cumbersome.
My goal is to combine the devices into one slim, comfortably held-held unit powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery (instead of disposable AAA alkaline cells).
